Security Manager

In order to access ThinView, a user must input a valid AS/400 user ID and password. This information is encrypted by the ThinView client before the user is authenticated. Once the user is logged on, ThinView enforces the object level security inherent in OS/400. Therefore, a user may only work with objects for which his/her profile is authorized.

In addition, ThinView provides a Security Manager that enables you to apply restrictions on its various functions based on the user or group profile. The Security Manager also allows you to apply fine grain rules to database access even at the data file member level.

If using the ThinView Terminal Emulator over the Internet, we recommend that our Secured Telnet feature be used. This is possible with OS/400 V4R4 or later.

ThinView security provisions include:

  • AS/400 user ID & password authentication
  • User ID & password encryption
  • Limit major functions available through Control Panel
  • Secured Telnet via SSL encryption
  • Limit Terminal Emulation functionality
  • Anonymous applet launch

User must input a valid AS400 user ID and password which is encrypted by the ThinView client before the user is authenticated. Once logged on, ThinView enforces the object level security inherent in OS/400.
